How to read the three speeds
Slow, Standard and Fast are progressively higher total prices per unit of gas: the protocol's base fee for the next block plus a larger priority tip. When the network is quiet, all three are almost identical because a minimal tip already gets you into the next block, which arrives every 12 seconds. During congestion the gap widens. Where the data comes from
GasNow reads the Etherscan gas oracle and, as a fallback, the eth_feeHistory method of a public Ethereum RPC endpoint. A new reading is stored every five minutes. Every reading also feeds the daily Ethereum gas reports. The same data is available as JSON from the public snapshot endpoint.
