About GasNow
GasNow (gasnow.tools) is a free, independent dashboard for cryptocurrency transaction fees and market conditions. It has been online since 2021 and is maintained by Jonata Ribas with contributions from the community.
What we do
GasNow answers two practical questions for anyone moving crypto: what will this transaction cost right now, and what state is the market in? The live dashboard shows Ethereum gas in gwei and Bitcoin fees in sat/vB with dollar costs, alongside the Crypto Fear & Greed Index, GasNow's own Market Stress Index and Leverage Index, the Bitcoin halving cycle, trending tokens and crypto news. This site also publishes transaction cost pages, daily gas reports and guides.
Not the old gasnow.org
A different service called gasnow.org, run by Sparkpool and Taichi Network, shut down in 2021. GasNow at gasnow.tools is a separate, independent project with no connection to it, and it is active today.
Where the data comes from
- Ethereum gas: Etherscan gas oracle, with the
eth_feeHistoryRPC method as a fallback. - Bitcoin fees: mempool.space fee recommendations.
- Prices, market cap and trending tokens: CoinGecko.
- Fear & Greed Index: Alternative.me.
- Derivatives: Binance, with automatic fallback to OKX, Bybit and Hyperliquid.
- News: stories from our sister site Jornal Bitcoin, which credits the original outlets.
Data is refreshed every five minutes for gas and every few minutes for most other indicators. Readings are stored, which is what powers the history and best-time pages.
How our own indicators work
The Market Stress Index and the Leverage Index are calculated by GasNow with fixed, published formulas. The methodology, weights and limitations are documented in MSI methodology and funding, open interest and leverage. The full source code is public on GitHub.
Editorial standards
Guides on this site are written and reviewed by the GasNow team and updated when the underlying protocols change. Cost estimates use typical gas amounts and say so. Nothing on GasNow is financial advice.
How GasNow is funded
GasNow is free to use with no account. Running costs are covered by advertising, sponsors and voluntary donations. Advertising never influences the data shown. See how to support GasNow.
News
The news section shows the latest stories from our sister site Jornal Bitcoin, which curates reporting from outlets such as CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, Decrypt, The Block and Bitcoin Magazine and summarizes it with AI assistance. Each story shows the market conditions on GasNow when it broke and links to the full article.
